They Find A Girl With Scaly Skin Living In A Shed, Then A Simple Tub Of Vaseline Transforms He
In many lower-income countries, there is a stigma attached to people who live with disabilities. It can be difficult for those with special needs to get the medical attention and social acceptance they truly need to function in society.
Such was the case for a little girl from Nepal named Nagina, who was born with a severe condition that made the entirety of her skin thick and scaly.
Her parents did not have the tools, financial or otherwise, to deal with their daughter’s heartbreaking condition.
When medical workers finally found and rescued Nagina, she was living in a shed in a rural part of the country. She was emotionally depressed to the point she never smiled or spoke.
But these days, things are much different for Nagina, now 13 — all because of one simple tub of Vaseline.

Nagina was born with a severe condition that made her skin thick and scaly. Her parents had no idea how to manage her condition, so Nagina spent years in agony.
She was depressed, and never smiled or spoke.
When medical workers found and rescued Nagina, she was living inside a shed in rural Nepal.
When Nagina arrived at the Hospital & Rehabilitation Center for Disabled Children, she couldn’t walk or move.
At the hospital, doctors diagnosed Nagina with ichthyosis, a skin disorder that causes dry, cracked and scaly skin. There is no cure for ichthyosis, and the lack of treatment caused this poor little girl to seize up.
Direct Relief, an international charity, heard Nagina’s story and decided to contact the folks at Vaseline for help, to which they obliged.
According to the company, Vaseline Jelly works by creating a sealing barrier between cells in dry or damaged skin which locks in moisture and speeds up your skin’s natural recovery process, helping it to heal from within.
With a brand new shipment of Vaseline at their disposal, nurses began treating Nagina’s skin by wrapping her body in Vaseline-soaked gauze.
Every day, nurses bathed Nagina and changed her bandages.
Day after day, Nagina’s skin improved.
“The difference something as simple as Vaseline has made to her life is incredible,’ says Dr. Bibek Banskota, the medical director who oversaw her treatment.
For the first time ever, Nagina smiled.
She also participated in physiotherapy to help her mobilize with a new wheelchair, and she met other children with disabilities.
Today, Nagina is 13 years old. She has since been discharged from the hospital and is now attending a school for children with disabilities, which is funded by the Hospital & Rehabilitation Centre For Disabled Children.
Nagina has not only transformed on the outside, but on the inside, too. Her peers and teachers describe her as being very bright, intelligent and smiley.
She has also been given a free lifetime’s supply of Vaseline.
